Beyond100K Partners with STEMM Opportunity Alliance to Drive Solutions for STEM Teacher Shortage

Washington, D.C. – Beyond100K proudly announces its pivotal role as an anchor partner in the STEMM Opportunity Alliance (SOA)’s National Strategy, unveiled Wednesday at the White House Summit on STEMM Equity and Excellence. The SOA’s comprehensive strategy, “STEMM Equity and Excellence 2050: A National Strategy for Progress and Prosperity,” aims to propel 20 million individuals from historically excluded and marginalized communities into STEMM fields by 2050.

“America’s diversity of thought, derived from our diversity of geography, background and identity, is one of our nation’s strongest assets,” said Sudip Parikh, CEO of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and executive publisher of the Science family of journals. “Growing the STEMM workforce to its greatest potential enables us to create a world where every child, regardless of their background, sees participation in STEMM as their birthright.”

Beyond100K joins a coalition of over 200 cross-sector partners within the SOA, who have each committed to multi-lateral, cross-sector collaboration to achieve systems-level change aligned with the co-created national strategy. This investment underscores the commitment to achieving transformative change and fostering a robust, inclusive STEMM workforce reflective of America’s diverse communities.

The SOA’s strategic framework comprises six pillars, anchored by leading organizations committed to driving progress in their respective areas. Each pillar is designed to foster equitable engagement, nurture curiosity, and remove barriers within the STEMM ecosystem.

As an anchor partner of the SOA’s strategy, Beyond100K will facilitate collaboration and action for partners committed to ending the K-12 STEMM teacher shortage, with a focus on equity, representation, and belonging, especially for schools serving majority Black, Latinx, and Native American students. This includes increasing and deepening partnerships with a diversity of organizations nationwide to prepare 150,000 and retain 150,000 STEM teachers by 2032.

“Succeeding in our mission to diversify and foster belonging in STEMM education and careers requires bold, collaborative action,” stated Talia Milgrom-Elcott, founder and executive director at Beyond100K. “By focusing on nurturing and diversifying STEMM educators, we can inspire and support the next generation of STEMM leaders from all backgrounds.”

Beyond100K’s participation underscores its commitment to ending the shortage of STEMM educators by 2043 while cultivating skilled and diverse teachers who inspire and reflect the demographics of their students. By leveraging strategic partnerships and innovative initiatives, Beyond100K aims to accelerate progress toward a more equitable and inclusive STEMM landscape.

The STEMM Opportunity Alliance was established in December 2022, building upon the inaugural White House Summit on STEMM Equity and Excellence. Since its inception, the SOA has engaged over 1,500 leaders and community members nationwide, culminating in the co-creation of the STEMM Equity and Excellence 2050 strategy.

Wednesday’s White House Summit convening marks a milestone in the collective effort to advance STEMM equity and excellence. Leaders from science, government, education, and industry gathered to celebrate the strategy’s launch and reaffirm their commitment to driving meaningful change.
