In this decade, we will reduce the most persistent STEM teacher shortages, especially those serving a majority Black, Latinx, and Native American students.

How Our Network Thrives

To meet our original 100,000 STEM teacher goal, we developed an approach to social change called “networked impact,” which brought our partner organizations together to form a unified identity under a common goal. They contribute their unique resources and work collaboratively to develop innovative solutions to shared challenges that none of us can solve alone.

Ten years later,
we are building
on our networked
impact approach to
meet our new
audacious goal.

and passion.

Uniting a Network to Make Public, Audacious Commitments

Partners who join the Beyond100K network make unique and powerful commitments to significantly contribute to our shared goal. We believe that action happens at the intersection of passion and need and that the people leading the work are best positioned to know what they can contribute.

Commitments are shared publicly both in celebration and to help hold us accountable.

Understanding the
Root of the Problem

We can’t solve a problem we don’t understand. In our first ten years, we created a massive, participatory process to better understand the greatest challenges and opportunities to find and keep great STEM teachers.

From there we focused our network on them and successfully reached our 100,000 teacher preparation goal. As we launch towards our next goal, we are leading a next-generation process to co-create, with the network, a new map of the barriers underlying the STEM teacher shortage, including a focus on building racial equity in the field.

Building Tools for
Partners to Make
Progress

Our network serves as a marketplace for information and resources.

We put learning at the center of the network, facilitated by our best in-class tools that were developed and refined in our first 10 years. These tools support innovation, collaborative problem-solving, and implementation that advance individuals’ work for mutual benefit.

We lead with respect by acknowledging that our role is not about “fixing” those who dedicate so much to preparing the next generation, but instead about making their jobs easier and respecting their commitment.

A SPECIAL INITIATIVE WITH U.S. ED

YOU Belong in STEM

We believe in the importance of shining a national spotlight on the need for great STEM teachers.

In December 2022, inspired by the stories young people shared with us about their experiences in STEM learning, the U.S. Department of Education made public their first national STEM initiative launched in a decade to help implement and scale equitable, high-quality STEM education for all students from PreK to higher education—regardless of background—to ensure their 21st century career readiness and global competitiveness. Their YOU Belong in STEM focus builds on the belief that creating the conditions for STEM excellence starts with students and teachers feeling a sense of belonging in the classroom.
