Halloween is a time of magic and mystery for kids — and, let’s be honest, us grown-ups, too, if we plan it right. Whether at home or in the classroom, interactive, spooky, kooky science-y STEM activities offer so many ways to spark imagination. Your young people will have so much fun, they won’t even realize they’re learning.
I am amazed by the creativity shown by our teachers and parents as they design interactive, fun, and educational Halloween STEM activities. I’ve curated a collection of some of my favorites. Have a ghoulishly good time!
Master engineers. Create spider webs from yarn or string — or get your hammer and nails and some rubberbands out to make this an all-hands kind of activity. You can read about different webs here and then easily, with step-by-step directions, recreate the intricate geometrical shapes that make webs so strong. And while you’re hammering and spinning, you can share spooky spider stories.
