Why does belonging in STEM matter to you?

Growing up, STEM education came to me very easily. I enjoyed and loved all the subjects. However, I never had a STEM teacher who I was able to relate to or even made me feel like I belonged. I was always told that I wouldn’t get far in my STEM education or field. As a Latina, it was difficult to connect with my STEM teachers. Belonging in STEM is important to have students feel that they are being seen, understood, safe, and have meaningful relationships with teachers and classmates.
